The Cambodia Academy business offices are based in Burlingame, California, while our campus operates in a rural area in northwestern Cambodia. The Cambodia Academy provides a rigorous Khmer and English-based education in grades 1-9 for more than 300 of Cambodia's poorest children.
The school was founded in April 2004 by Rotarian Hans Eide. After having been both touched by the genuine kindness of the locals and yet unsettled by the widespread poverty suffered in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and Khmer Rouge era, Hans led the charity until his passing in 2016. His vision survives and his legacy is carried on by a nine-member volunteer board that is committed to the school's future success.
The curriculum emphasizes English, Khmer, math, science, and social studies. Our academic performance is recognized by provincial authorities as well as by the faculty at the local high school in Mongkol Borei where many of our students continue their education. Our nutritional program provides breakfast and lunch to all students, ensuring that no student goes hungry. Meals are prepared on campus so that all students will at least have two healthy meals per school day.
